Alexander Segovia

GMS Magnet Coordinator, AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP Government

Alex Segovia (he/his) is the GMS Magnet Coordinator and teaches AP World History, AP U.S. History, and AP Government. He joined GMS in 2021 and holds a bachelor’s degree in History and master’s degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Learning and Technology. As a former Cleveland Cavalier, Mr. Segovia is excited to teach in the same community he was once part of as a student. He has also taught Film Studies within GMS. Outside of school, he is an avid moviegoer who will watch just about anything new in theaters, good or bad.

Nanami Sunaga Phillips

GMS Peer Mentor, Biology, H Biology, Physiology

Nanami Sunaga Phillips (she/her) has been a Biology, Physiology, and Peer mentor elective teacher with GMS since 2024. She received her bachelors and masters degree from UCLA in 2012 and has been teaching science ever since. She is a National Board Certified teacher and her goal has always been to bring science to life for her students. Whenever she has free time, she enjoys hiking, spending time with family, making arts and crafts, music, and traveling.

H World History, Ethnic Studies/Health

Amanda Zepeda (she/her) is an Ethnic Studies and History teacher. She is a second-generation Chicana who grew up in the San Fernando Valley. As a former Cleveland student, she was excited to return as a teacher after completing her undergraduate education. Ms. Zepeda obtained her bachelor’s degree as a double major in Latinx Studies and History with a minor in Race and Resistance at San Francisco State University, her teaching credential from Cal State Long Beach, and her Ethnic Studies teaching certificate from UCLA. When not teaching, she enjoys exploring different places, watching movies, reading fantasy, and relaxing at the beach. Ms. Zepeda joined the GMS family in the fall of 2023.

Coleen Bondy

H English 11, H English 12, Creative Writing

Coleen Bondy is a GMS English teacher. She has taught at Cleveland since 2006 and has been a part of GMS since its inception. Ms. Bondy holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and a master's degree in education from the University of Phoenix. Her teaching credential is in Secondary English. Before becoming a teacher, Ms. Bondy worked as a newspaper reporter for many years and has also worked in marketing and public relations. Her hobbies include taking epic road trips, visiting local museums, hiking, writing, reading, and researching family history.

Rebecca Burney

H English 9, H English 11, AP Language

Rebecca Burney was born and raised in Aloha, Oregon. She received her bachelor’s degree in Education and English from Providence College in Pasadena, CA, and her master’s degree and credential in secondary education from Pacific University. She enjoys traveling, reading, and hanging out with her family and her dog.

John Crossley

Video Production 2, Video Production 3, Kcav/Film Making

John Crossley is a seasoned and versatile filmmaker & photographer with years of experience working closely on major brands with ad agencies, production companies and corporate, film and TV clients. Mr. Crossley is a credentialed educator with extensive experience instructing on the fundamentals of film and video production. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from Lawrence Technological University, a teaching credential in Visual and Performing Arts from CSUN, and a master of fine arts in filmmaking from New York University. Mr. Crossley joined GMS in 2020.

Gabriel Del Toro

Geometry, H Geometry Algebra 2 

Gabriel Del Toro joined the GMS teaching staff this semester to teach Geometry and Algebra 2. He received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Secondary Teaching from California State University, Northridge. Prior to becoming a teacher, Mr. Del Toro worked for one year as a teacher assistant for ESL students at James Madison Middle School. Mr. Del Toro enjoys being with his family and friends. His hobbies are listening to music, playing soccer, and watching soccer matches. Mr. Del Toro joined GMS in 2023.

Stephanie Hussey

Counselor

Stephanie Hussey is the counselor for the Global Media Studies Magnet and has been at Cleveland since 2019. She received her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Psychology from Notre Dame de Namur University. She earned her master’s degree in Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services from California Lutheran University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and exercising.

Andrew Jones

Physical Education

Andrew Jones is a Physical Education teacher. He has taught at Cleveland High School since 2014.  Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Salem International University. His Teaching Credential is Physical Education K-12.  Mr. Jones is also an Ocean Lifeguard and has his EMT-1 certification. His hobbies include working out, watching sports, and traveling.

Elias Rodriguez

H U.S. History, H Government, GMS Ambassadors/ASB Advisor

Elias Rodriguez teaches Social Studies for GMS. He currently teaches U.S. History (11th grade) and Government/Economics (12th grade). He is also the CHS Associated Student Body (ASB) Advisor. Mr. Rodriguez holds a bachelor's degree in History from CSUN, and has been teaching at Cleveland since 2005. Before he became a teacher, he worked for 17 years in the high performance auto industry as a sales person and technician. Mr. Rodriguez enjoys his family, friends, traveling, and teaching.

Blaine Bailey (He/They) was born in Scottsdale, Arizona. He currently teaches 10th and 12th Grade Honors ELA, as well as AP Seminar and AP Literature. He joined GMS during the 2025-2026 school year. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration on Immigration Studies from UCLA. Additionally, he also holds a Masters in Single Subject Teaching for ELA from USC. Prior to his transition towards full-time teaching with GMS, he served as a substitute teacher in the San Diego Area (Go Padres!). He also previously was a doctoral candidate at the University of Arizona, studying Sociology with concentrations in Immigration, Law & Policy, and Labor. Outside of work he is an avid reader, a film buff, a father to three animals, and a semi-proficient videogame player.

Jennifer Duong

H Chemistry, Chemistry

Jennifer Duong teaches Honors Chemistry for GMS and joined the program in 2026. She studied biology at Moorpark College and CSUN, earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology and teaching credentials in Biology and Chemistry from CSUN. Ms. Duong brings patience to her classroom and values the artistic and creative sides of science. Before teaching at Cleveland, she worked as a robotics instructor for elementary and middle school students and as a nanny. Outside of school, she enjoys going to the gym, practicing origami, trying new restaurants, and watching new films.

Christina Lee

Algebra 1, Algebra 2, H Algebra 2

Christina Lee is a GMS math teacher who joined the program in 2026. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Science from UC San Diego and a math teaching credential from CSUN. Ms. Lee taught math for 12 years in private education and is beginning her eighth year in LAUSD. A graduate of Granada Hills High School, she has taught students with a wide range of math abilities across grades K–12, primarily in middle and high school. She is passionate about helping all students make sense of mathematical concepts. Outside of school, Ms. Lee enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, snowboarding, and being in the mountains.

Jessica Espino

English 9, English 10, Math Lab

Jessica Espino is an RSP Teacher and Math Development Learning Lab Teacher who joined Cleveland and GMS during the 2025–2026 school year. She supports students in their general education classes through co-teaching and collaboration. Ms. Espino earned her bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development from CSUN in 2021 and her Special Education credential through CSUN’s ACT program in 2025. She has worked with students since 2019 in after-school enrichment programs, child care, and as a paraprofessional, including three years at a middle school in Pacoima. Outside of school, she enjoys concerts and music festivals and has attended more than 100 musical performances, spanning rap, bands, and pop artists.

Tina Bachman

Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2

Tina Bachman is an RSP teacher who joined Cleveland in October 2025 and GMS in 2026. She co-teaches inclusion math classes with Ms. Lee and serves as the case carrier for approximately half of GMS students with IEPs. Ms. Bachman holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA, a master’s degree from UC Riverside, and a Special Education credential from CSUN. Her connection to Cleveland began five years ago when she completed her student teaching on campus. Outside of school, she enjoys playing tennis, snowboarding, visiting museums, and attending live sports, music, and theater events.
